2ND LIEUT. NENO J. DA PRADO Iron Mountain, Mich. Lieutenant DaPrado graduated from Officers’ Training School, at Fort Sheridan, and was assigned to our Battery September 1, 1917. He was a football star of the Michigan Agricultural College and was an all-around athlete. Emerson says: “Physical exuberance, surcharge of arterial blood, a strong heart and a bounding pulse-these are the bases of the powers that make men and nations great. In the last analysis, great human achievements rest on perfect physical health.” The “bounding pulse” and “physical exuberance” dominated Lieut. DaPrado’s whole personality to such an extent that he could inspire red blooded enthusiasm into those of more sluggish mold. It might be said that he fairly radiated genial activity into the recruits who later were the warriors of Battery B. The members will always remember the kind, magnetic manner in which he instructed them in the mysteries of military movement in their awkward stages. September 17, 1918, the boys learned with regret that Lieut. DaPrado was to leave the Battery to become an aerial observer for artillery. The fellows of our outfit will remember the hearty handshake he gave to each one when bidding goodbye to the Battery.
